Dog Training for American Staffies?
Filed Under Dog Training | 2 Comments
I have a one and a half year old amstaff which is a gorgeous girl, but utterly untrainable. if you have food, she will sit, stay, shake and go to her bed but aside from that, jumps all over guests, generally won’t do as asked, will not come when called (unless it suits her), and still nips occasionally.
i love her to pieces but she is a naughty dog!
has anyone got any training advice?

Need Dog Training Advice for Boxers?
Filed Under Dog Training | 1 Comment
Which trainer to hire? I am looking to get my dogs trained (two german boxers) but there are so many I don’t know which to choose. Right now i’m mostly looking around online but I am going to start calling and then meet in person, i want to ask the right questions. What do you think of these 2, they both have videos on their sites of their training

Dog training advice please?
Filed Under Dog Training | 6 Comments
Hi all.
I have always trained my own dogs. I have a pup that I just adopted and she is about 4 months old. She was potty trained in 4 days, she will sit, laydown, and heel right beside me.
However as she will heel…if she is around a whole bunch of chaos she will just dart off. I love her to death but she is so hard headed….more hard headed than any other dog I have trained before.
So I guess I just want some advice as to how I can get her to heel, or come and actually stay put around a lot of distractions, without having to get after her a thousand times. Any advice would be awesome!
Thankyou in advance for reading

Ok I see I have some comments. I want to make one thing clear. I do use a lead to train my dog.
I just want her to be able to do this without a lead as well.
My first dog trains on lead great….and does the same without a lead as well.
I just want to be able to train to that point that I do not need a lead.
The main reason I do this is in case my dog is off a lead and if there is an emergency….say my dog runs into the street or something and a car is coming…I want her to be able to respond to my command without having to yell, yell, yell and have my dog running mad.
I train beyond just lead training.
Just to note. I know my dog is pup and she is full of energy like any other pup. I do not expect her to do this over nigh I would just like to have some tips on how to work with distractions starting as a pup because it is the best time to start.
I know this takes a while and keep planing on working with her in the future months…years. I expect this. Just wanted some tips on where to start with distractions.

Dog Training Session With Kids – Would you enroll your kids in training for them and your family dog?
Filed Under Dog Training | 9 Comments
I am thinking about holding training for kids and their family dogs, teaching the children how to train and work with their dog. We would cover things like basic commands such as sit, and fun tricks and games too. Is this something you would enroll you child in?
If so, how long should each class be?
How many weeks should the classes run?
How much should the classes cost?
What would be your concerns?
Any ideas or suggestions?
Thanks!

We have a dog that we just got a few weeks ago in our home. He has no way to take himself out but we are home almost all the time (all but 1 day a week), we take him out every 1-1.5 hours or so, keep out “doggy training (scented to attract – or so they say) potty pads”, and when we are gone from home he is left in a large bathroom with a light. The problem is that we have to watch him EVERY minute or he will go “potty” in the house … and never on the pads. He likes to do his “deeds” right in the center of the walkway. When we take him out it is for a long time and we make sure he “goes” a few times before we take him in. Most of these are happening in the early am or late night, or he just sneaks off for just a sec around the corner and by the time we can get up to follow him it is too late. How we handle it: we are following the directions on the “potty pads” which says to scold animal by saying no to the mess, picking up the mess, then taking & placing animal on the pad (to associate it with going there?). Also, he has now begun chewing all my electrical cords out of the walls (ie cell phone charger, lamp plugs, anything elctrical, etc. even though they are hard to get to (blocked by furniture) he somehow gets to them (he is a tiny dog. And, yes, we have chew toys and treats for him. He gets chew toys all the time and treats are rewaards for “doing his business” outside. Any advice? What am I doing wrong? (He is about 1 yr old.)

I have a 10 week old Basset/Lab mix puppy. I want to read about how scent dogs are trained. I would also like to read about training service dogs. I am just interested in different dog training methods. She is such a smart puppy that I worry that if I don’t keep her properly stimulated mentally she could cause all kinds of mischief.
I could also use some advice. There is about an hour soon after each of my puppy’s mealtimes that she is really hyper. I know that a nice long walk would be a great way to use the extra energy but Bassets are prone to bloat and should not be exercised immediately before or after a meal. I try to direct her energy towards her toys but she likes to jump on my two year old when she is at her most hyper. She bites my daughter’s hands and arms and steals her blankie. If I keep her on leash I can control her but off leash she can be a little terrorist. We are working on the “leave it” and “drop” commands (amongst other basic commands) because those seem like they would be the most useful in this situation. Does anybody have any advice on dealing with a really mouthy puppy? Any tips on helping her to outgrow this habit a little more quickly?

Can I find a dog training schedule online?
Filed Under Dog Training | 3 Comments
I trained my basset hound with out a real tentative schedule but my pit bull needs more structured training, he does not have behavioral issues, and is generally a good dog, his issues include, jumping not sitting when told, barking out side, and so one. If any one knows of a planned training schedule online, that is like Day 1, do this, Day 2 do this, and so on and so forth.
Thanks,
B
