I have a 6 month old male shih tzu named Conner. Recently we did some obedience training with our dog with our local Kennel Club (the last training class was last night).

Conner did very well with obedience training but now Conner won’t come when he’s called. I say his name and tell him to come and all he does is sit there and looks at me like I’m from a different planet. How can I train my dog to come to me when he’s called? Is this just a phase that my dog is going through? Will he grow out of it?

Were getting Conner nutered on friday and my husband thinks that Conner will listen better after he’s been nutered. Is my husband right?
We wanted to get him nutered sooner but the vet wanted us to wait until more of his teeth came in.

I have a 2-year-old Cocker Spaniel and we just adopted a 10 week old puppy (border collie/lab who is already bigger than the cocker).

Anyway, we are crate training the puppy. We don’t yet have a crate for the puppy, so we are using the cocker’s crate and letting him be out at night and during the day (he is very well housetrained).

Last night, in the crate for the first time, the puppy (a border collie/lab mix who is already bigger than my cocker) was whining and yelping. We tried to ignore it, and then we tried to tell him no be quiet, but he just kept on for 5 minutes.

My cocker was sleeping next to me and ran over there a few times. Finally, he got down, laid under the bed near the crate, and issued a few low growls at the puppy. That puppy didn’t make one sound after that all night!

My dog just trained him to be quiet in the crate! Have you seen this before? Is that what he was doing? Has this got to do with being dominant or because we were upset?

Is it worth the money? I mean they’re offering an 8-week program for $109.00 to teach your dog how to control his barking, attitude, his overall behavior, potty training, how to sit, stand, shut-up, etc.

Have you ever done one of these? Thanks.

We have a situation where we just adopted a dog that was in a very bad situation and might have been abused. The dog is some sort of Collie/Lab mix and weighs right at 30lbs and 1 year old. The problem is we have a current dog for 6 years, a miniature daschund. The two get a long just find and are very loving dogs. However, the new dog is a lot bigger and we just can’t allow him to do the things we let our dashunds, such as jump on the couches and sleep in the bed with us, he just is to big. We want to crate train him but not our older dog. I have read a lot about crate training and how you teach them that it’s their space and never to put them in for punishment, which is fine with us. My concern is it okay to crate one dog and leave the other one out of his crate? Also, at night the dashund usually sleeps in the bed with us, can we crate the other dog in the kitchen or should we crate him in the bedroom with us as well? My concern is he will cry and bark all night and keep us awake. Any advice would be great!

i have a dog, she’s about 3 years old now, and sadly she was never trained. she understands sit, but only sometimes does it. she pulls on the leash, constantly tries to run away, jumps up on everyone, and if i took her off the leash in public she would never come back.

any ideas of a training video or website i could use to spare myself the $125 on a class?

I am considering purchasing a remote training collar for my dog. Mostly to teach her to come on command, even when she’s distracted. If you have had experience with either of these two particular brands, please leave me some feed back Thanks!

I know it varied depending on the dog and what you need and how long it takes, but I’m just looking for a ballpark. We just have a small dog who we adopted from a shelter and he never was potty trained and he tends to get seperation anxiety and tear the house up while we’re gone.
